CHIEF OF NAVAL TECHNICAL TRAINING
NAVAL AIR STATION MEMPHIS ( 751
MILLINGTON. TENNESSEE 38054
14 October 1988
It is wi .th great pleasure and enthusiasm that
I find myself working in close partnership with
the Chickasaw Council and the Boy Scouts of
America. In my previous tour as Commander Naval
Forces Japan, I had the privilege to act for over
two years as Sustainjng Membership Enrollment
Chairman for the Far East Council. As I begin my
tour here in Memphis as the Chief of Naval
Technical Training, I look forward to maintain ing
a similarly close relationship with, and support
of, Mid-South Boy Scouts.
The success of last year 's "Scout Base 87"
was clear testimony to the importance that
Scouti~g holds in the Mid-South. This year's
plans and expectations for "Scout Base 88'' are
greater still. We e .xpect over 8,000 Boy Scouts
from over 260 Scouting Units in the area to
participate. More than 150 units are planning to
camp for the weekend at the base.
A spectacular air show, fabulous aircraft
static displays, the Navy's Parachute
Demonstration Team and Hot Air Balloon Team and a
wide range of scouti ng activities will be
available for everyone to enjoy . An added
pleasure this year will be the addition of Scouts
from other Mid-South councils. Requests for
campsites from these units outside the Chickasaw
Council have already been received. This will
ensure that "Scout Base 88" will truly be a
"Mid-South Scouting Adventure."
This day of show program has been prepared to
provide everyone involved with "Scout Base 88"
details of the various events and a schedule.
Every Scout district has a Scout Base Chairman
who is available to assist those who req uire
additional information. Pl ease feel free to
contact them. I want visitors to the base to
feel free to contact any of my "Scout Base 88"
officials for information or questions c o ncerning
this weekend's event.
I welcome you all to "Scout Base 88" and
thank you in advance for helping make this year's
adventure the Mid-South's best ever!
