Member of The Memphis & Shelby County Community Chest Chickasaw Council welcomes y(}u to this great Boy Scout Exposition. The thousands of boys participating in the various demonstrations are having the fun and training which the Scouting program of character building and citizenship training affords. This Exposition is held for the primary purpose of presenting to parents and all interested people just what Scouts do, for we are deeply appreciative of the wholehearted support of the citizens of this area for this program which is so vital to our future citizens. The financial support necessary to carry on the work of Scouting is derived from the citizens of the area served by Chickasaw Council, who provid<' our op~rating budget. As we have no means of providing for capital expense for our three camps except through funds raised by the Exposition, the revenue, if any, from this Exposition will be used for permanent installations at the camps and none of the revenue will be used for operating expense. There are now 2,620 Cub Scouts, 3,877 Scouts and Explorers, a grand total of 6,497 boys in the Council. But there are thousands of boys of Scout and Cub Scout age who have not had the benefit of Scouting. The Council needs more volunteers to serve in this great work of training our youth so th.at an ever-increasing number of boys may have the fun of Scouting activities. ALVAN F. TATE, JR. The area of Chickasaw Council comprises DeSoto, Tate, Panola Counties, Mississippi; the eastern half of Crittenden County, Arkansas; Shelby County, Tennessee. The Council Headquarters is located at 416-420 Manufacturers & Merchants Building, 198 South Main St., Memphis, Tenn. In this area there are the following: White Troops __________________________ 82 White Scouts ------··--------------2,283 White Posts ______________________________ l 8 White Explorers__________________ 204 White Cub Scouts.............. 1,915 White P~cks ------------------------~---54 Negro Troops __________________________ 74 Negro Scouts ______________________ l ,390 Negro Packs ____________________________ 30 Negro Cub Scouts______________ 705 TOTAL UNITS __________________ 258 TOTAL BOYS __________________ 6,497 Including the Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, Explorer Advisors, Assistant Scoutmasters, Assistant Cubmasters, Den Mothers, District and Neighborhood Commissioners, Merit Badge Counselors, Council Members there are 2,131 leaders. These 2,131 leaders plus the 6,497 Scouts and Cub Scouts make a grand total of 8,635 people who are connected with Chickasaw Council. The Council operates three camps, Camp Currier, Kamp Kia Kima and Camp Fuller. Camp Currier, near Eudora, Miss., has 340 acres of rugged woodland on which are 35 cabins, a 15 acre lake for boating and fishing, one of the best swimming pools in the South, Headquarters Building, Health Lodge, Mess Hall and other buildings. The camp is open the year round. Kamp Kia Kima, near Hardy, Ark., is locate:d on 155 acres on the South Fork of Spring River. This camp, in the foothills of the Ozarks, will be opened in June. Canoeing, swimming, woodcraft, games provide fun for all. There are 24 buildings on the camp site, most of which are built of native stone. Camp Fuller for Negro Scouts is located in the T. 0. Fuller State Park which is just five miles south of the Memphis City Limits. It is a splendid camp with fine facilities for real outdoor experiences. Any profits which accrue from the Boy Scout Exposition will be used to improve and develop the camping facilities of the Council. Without the proceeds from the Boy Scout Exposition it would not be possible to carry through on the development of bigger and better camping facilities for the ever-increasing number of boys in the Council. Chickasaw Council has had a growth in boy membership of 80% in the past ten years. Member of The Memphis & Shelby County Community Chest Chickasaw Council welcomes y(}u to this great Boy Scout Exposition. The thousands of boys participating in the various demonstrations are having the fun and training which the Scouting program of character building and citizenship training affords. This Exposition is held for the primary purpose of presenting to parents and all interested people just what Scouts do, for we are deeply appreciative of the wholehearted support of the citizens of this area for this program which is so vital to our future citizens. The financial support necessary to carry on the work of Scouting is derived from the citizens of the area served by Chickasaw Council, who provid<' our op~rating budget. As we have no means of providing for capital expense for our three camps except through funds raised by the Exposition, the revenue, if any, from this Exposition will be used for permanent installations at the camps and none of the revenue will be used for operating expense. There are now 2,620 Cub Scouts, 3,877 Scouts and Explorers, a grand total of 6,497 boys in the Council. But there are thousands of boys of Scout and Cub Scout age who have not had the benefit of Scouting. The Council needs more volunteers to serve in this great work of training our youth so th.at an ever-increasing number of boys may have the fun of Scouting activities. ALVAN F. TATE, JR. The area of Chickasaw Council comprises DeSoto, Tate, Panola Counties, Mississippi; the eastern half of Crittenden County, Arkansas; Shelby County, Tennessee. The Council Headquarters is located at 416-420 Manufacturers & Merchants Building, 198 South Main St., Memphis, Tenn. These 2,131 leaders plus the 6,497 Scouts and Cub Scouts make a grand total of 8,635 people who are connected with Chickasaw Council. The Council operates three camps, Camp Currier, Kamp Kia Kima and Camp Fuller. Camp Currier, near Eudora, Miss., has 340 acres of rugged woodland on which are 35 cabins, a 15 acre lake for boating and fishing, one of the best swimming pools in the South, Headquarters Building, Health Lodge, Mess Hall and other buildings. The camp is open the year round. Kamp Kia Kima, near Hardy, Ark., is locate:d on 155 acres on the South Fork of Spring River. This camp, in the foothills of the Ozarks, will be opened in June. Canoeing, swimming, woodcraft, games provide fun for all. There are 24 buildings on the camp site, most of which are built of native stone. Camp Fuller for Negro Scouts is located in the T. 0. Fuller State Park which is just five miles south of the Memphis City Limits. It is a splendid camp with fine facilities for real outdoor experiences. Any profits which accrue from the Boy Scout Exposition will be used to improve and develop the camping facilities of the Council. Without the proceeds from the Boy Scout Exposition it would not be possible to carry through on the development of bigger and better camping facilities for the ever-increasing number of boys in the Council. Chickasaw Council has had a growth in boy membership of 80% in the past ten years.
