Exploring Growth
Program Announced
The national Explorer
cabinet has announced a
program to help the growth of
Exploring by recognizing those
Explorers who recruit new
members into their posts.
"By bringing new members
to Exploring, active .m embers
can make a sizable impact on the
growth of Exploring," says Jeff
Shimer, national president of the
400,000-plus members of the
young-adult program and prime
mover of this recruiting effort.
A distinctive award
certificate will be available for
the Explorers who successfully
participate in the program to
stimulate an increase in
membership.
To qualify for the award, an
Explorer must introduce one new
member into a local post
program during the fall of 1980.
Once the new mem her is
registered, the post Advisor may
apply to the local council service
center for the certificate, for
presentation at the appropriate
ceremonies.
The certificates, and
accompanying letters of
appreciation, will be available
from the national Exploring
Division.

It has often been humorously
said th~t a Professional Scouter
is expected to be an educator, to
have been at one time a scholar,
to have judgment about finance,
to know something about
construction, maintenance, and
labor, to speak virtuously and
continuously in words that
charm and never offend, to take
bold positions With which no one
will disagree, to consult
everyone, and follow all given
advice, and to do everything
through committees, but with
great speed and without error.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TROOP 292,171 AND POST 171

"Every boy deserves a trained leader." You've heard it said. You
know it is true. We are proud, here in the Southeast District, of the high
quality of our adult leader training. At the writing of this article we can
report on Scout Leader training and remind everyone the Cub Leader
Training is upon us.
Regarding Scout Leader Training, we are proud to report that JIM
COPELAND and his training committee have put together the best
training course available to adult scouters. Our first meeting was
excellent, both in program and participation. It is a good feeling to
have such qualified leaders giving their time and efforts to make
scouting happen through "trained" leaders. Thank you, Jim. Great
job.
We want to thank PHYLLIS SOUTHALL and her Cub Training
committee for preparing the program and materials necessary to
" train" our new Cub Leaders.
F OR MANY CUB LEADERS THIS WILL BE YOUR FIRST

encourage you to take advantage of the training opportunities offered.
SCOUT SHOW: We are pleased to announce that ARNOLD

for his part in making the Scout Show a success for boys.
.SCHOOL NIGHTS FOR SCOUTING are almost over now. It was
a busy month. But a great month for Cubbing and Scouting. We wish
to give special thanks to RON PROTHERO, our School Night
Chairman, and his School night Coordinators: NELDA HAMER,
BILL HORRELL, GLENN BAILEY, LARRY BRAKE, PHYLLIS
SOUTHALL, STUART ACREE, · LOIS RECTOR AND RICK

The Coors Corporation had a contest to clean up our community.
The organization that brought in the most cans won $500. Two troops
and one post combined to win first place in West Memphis. I think this
action of these units was more than monetary. I would like to thank
these units for showing the community that Scouting is helping the
environment. I would like to personally thank the leaders of these
units for giving their time and leadership in this cause .

Exploring Growth
Program Announced
The national Explorer
cabinet has announced a
program to help the growth of
Exploring by recognizing those
Explorers who recruit new
members into their posts.
"By bringing new members
to Exploring, active .members
can make a sizable impact on the
growth of Exploring," says Jeff
Shimer, national president of the
400,000-plus members of the
young-adult program and prime
mover of this recruiting effort.
A distinctive award
certificate will be available for
the Explorers who successfully
participate in the program to
stimulate an increase in
membership.
To qualify for the award, an
Explorer must introduce one new
member into a local post
program during the fall of 1980.
Once the new mem her is
registered, the post Advisor may
apply to the local council service
center for the certificate, for
presentation at the appropriate
ceremonies.
The certificates, and
accompanying letters of
appreciation, will be available
from the national Exploring
Division.
Scouting
Is
Pulling Together
To Make Good
Things Happen
Scouts are taught
that working alongside
one another, with
one common goal can
be rewarding. That
active participation
in projects gets things
done ... and cooperation
and team effort can
accomplish much more
than working alone.
We're mighty proud
of our Scouts and
the work they do!

Scouter"
It has often been humorously
said th~t a Professional Scouter
is expected to be an educator, to
have been at one time a scholar,
to have judgment about finance,
to know something about
construction, maintenance, and
labor, to speak virtuously and
continuously in words that
charm and never offend, to take
bold positions With which no one
will disagree, to consult
everyone, and follow all given
advice, and to do everything
through committees, but with
great speed and without error.

for a stronger unit. The sessions are as follows:
October 7 - Boy Scout Program.
October 14 -The Patrol Method, Developing Boy Leaders.
October 21 - Boy Scout Advancement and Personal Growth. ·

"Every boy deserves a trained leader." You've heard it said. You

report on Scout Leader training and remind everyone the Cub Leader
Training is upon us.
Regarding Scout Leader Training, we are proud to report that JIM
COPELAND and his training committee have put together the best
training course available to adult scouters. Our first meeting was
excellent, both in program and participation. It is a good feeling to
have such qualified leaders giving their time and efforts to make
scouting happen through "trained" leaders. Thank you, Jim. Great
job.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TROOP 292,171 AND POST 171
The Coors Corporation had a contest to clean up our community.
The organization that brought in the most cans won $500. Two troops
and one post combined to win first place in West Memphis. I think this
action of these units was more than monetary. I would like to thank
these units for showing the community that Scouting is helping the
environment. I would like to personally thank the leaders of these
units for giving their time and leadership in this cause.

NOTES FROM YOUR DISTRICT EXECUTIVE
Conclave 1980 was a big succes. We had 29 people attend this year.
I would like to thank all the ladies that brought the ice cream. I would
like to also thank the men for the cookies and cakes.
I cannot believe this year is almost over. I am looking forward to
the coming year for Scouting in Crittenden. I feel we will have the best
year Crittenden has ever had. I hope you will work with me in making
the district the best in the Chickasaw Council. have a nice october and
