British
Scouting_Study
An Associated Press news
story from London by Eddy
Gilmore for June 9th re::
lease has received quite a
bit of coverage in some parts
of the country. (One sample
headline - "SCOUTS TOUT
LONGIES AND LASSIES")
Unfortunately, that article
never did specify that the
study was by The Boy Scouts
Association of Great Britain, and concernEld only with
British Scouting. As the first
two paragraphs put it:
"London, June 9 (AP) A comn1ittea cf Boy Scout
leaders urged the organization today to scrap its short
pants, drop the word 'boy'
from its name and take an
interest in girls.
The committee's report,
delivered after two and a
half years of study, recom..
mended
a revolutionary
streamlining of the worldwide organization founded in
Britain by Lord BadenPowell in 1908."
First of all, it should be
pointed out that this study
was conducted by The Boy
Scouts Association of Great
Britain for and about British
Scouting and concerns only
British Scouting. There are
about 90 such · autonomous
Scout associations around
the world, building understanding and friendship but
not interfering with andtfer' s operation.
The Boy Scouts of America knew about the research
oeing done by the British
and commends the associa-

rural areas of the council
in 1965 and for growth iri
service to boys in the innercity area.
Tom McGuire, council
vice president, received the
awards at separate meetings held by the Rural Scouting Committee and the Urban
Relationships
Committee.
The special plaques of recognition were presented to
Pre side n t Borda at the
executive board meeting.
At the Rural Scouting
meeting Mr. McGuire was
featured on the program to
tell the group about the highly successful school night ·
held in 1965.
Those attending the national meeting were greatly
impressed with very inspirational and informative
program carried out for the
3200 delegates attending..
Representing Chickasaw
Council were: Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Borda, Mr. and Mrs.
W.L. Sharpe, Mr. and Mrs.
Jones Huskey and Mr. Tom
McGuire.
The 1967 national council
meeting will be held at Pittsburgh, April 13-14, 1967.

Chickasaw Receives Awards
At National Council Meeting
Chickasaw Council was
honored at the recent na-

Dallas, Texas, and received
awards for excellence in the
expansion of ScoutiTlg in the
British
Scouting_ Study
An Associated Press news
story from London by Eddy
Gilmore for June 9th re::
lease has received quite a
bit of coverage in some parts
of the country. (One sample
headline - "SCOUTS TOUT
LONGIES AND LASSIES")
Unfortunately, that article
never did specify that the
study was by The Boy Scouts
Association of Great Britain,
and concernEld only with
British Scouting. As the first
two paragraphs put it:
"London, June 9 (AP) -
A comn1ittea cf Boy Scout
leaders urged the organization
today to scrap its short
pants, drop the word 'boy'
from its name and take an
interest in girls.
The committee's report,
delivered after two and a
half years of study, recom ..
mended a revolutionary
streamlining of the worldwide
organization founded in
Britain by Lord BadenPowell
in 1908."
First of all, it should be
pointed out that this study
was conducted by The Boy
Scouts Association of Great
Britain for and about British
Scouting and concerns only
British Scouting. There are
about 90 such · autonomous
Scout associations around
the world, building understanding
and friendship but
not interfering with andtfer'
s operation.
The Boy Scouts of America
knew about the research
oeing done by the British
and commends the associarural
areas of the council
in 1965 and for growth iri
service to boys in the innercity
area.
Tom McGuire, council
vice president, received the
awards at separate meetings
held by the Rural Scouting
Committee and the Urban
Relationships Committee.
The special plaques of recognition
were presented to
Pre side n t Borda at the
executive board meeting.
At the Rural Scouting
meeting Mr. McGuire was
featured on the program to
tell the group about the highly
successful school night ·
held in 1965.
Those attending the national
meeting were greatly
impressed with very inspirational

The recruit of the month program started January 1, 1966. The idea is to promote
year round recruiting. When a unit registers a new boy or boys in a given month, it will
then be designated as a 1 star unit. When a unit registers new boys in 2 different months,
the unit will be designated as a 2 star unit, etc. up to 5 stars.
Listed below are those units who have recruited new boys since the first of January.

ORDER OF THE ARROW
The Crittenden chapter of
Chickasaw Council Lodge is
being formed. Mr. Bob Bentley
has been recruited to
act as chapter advisor. While
small in number, the group
is high in spirit. Theirchief
goal during the summer will
be to encourage those boys
who have been tapped out to
complete their Ordeal. He
is at present forming a
dance team which will perform
at the Fall Camporee.
During September, the OA
Election Team will meet
with all Scout Troops and
conduct the elections. They
will also explain the National
Camping Award in an effort
aimed at encouraging more
unit campingduringtheyear.
We extend to Mr. Bentley
our best wishes in this
undertaking.
NEW UNITS
We take this opportunity
to welcome Troop 232 to our
Scouting family. Mr. Ted
Williams is serving as
Scoutmaster of this unit
which is sponsored by the
Church of God, West Memphis.
They are a fine group
of Scouts and we're confident
that they will grow and
soon be one of the best troops
in West Memphis.
BOYS' LIFE
Is your unit 100% Boys'
Life? Have you ever stopped
to think about how many
hours a week a boy has
free? One or two hours
is spent in Troop Meetings,
but he can get so much
more out of Scouting if he
is supplied with our full
program. Boys' Life is designed
to appeal to all Scoutings'
ideals in the boy's
mind and heart. Actually
the magazine supplements
his other Scouting experiences.
For this reason
alone it is important that
he receive it on a regular
basis. Include Boys' Life
in your plans for this year's
budget. You won't regret
it.
