M. F. Hudglns,
Whitehaven, was
fined Hi in city court Wednesday afternoon on n charge of violating the
pure food Inw. He was alleged to have
diluted hl milk with wnter.
P. A. Mantel, cltv chemist, testified
he found milk handled by Hudglns contained 10 per cent added wnter. Hudglns
claimed the water leaked Into the milk
by reason of a fau'ty cooler. Judge Fits-hug- h
wns Inclined to consider the explanation until it was found Hudglns
was In court on a similar charge 1

on a charee of selling aged eggs.
Mr. Mantel testified ho found a chicken

Mr. Stanton denied he
sold the eggs and said he would appeal
the case.

Although actual figures showing the
total enrollment at all of the public
schools of the city will not be received
by the board of education until the
end of the week, unofficial reports In
dicate, that all of the white schools
are taxed beyond their canaeltv.
The enrollment at the Central hle-schcol has broken all records and this
condition exists in practically all of
the white schools. Just what Hens are
to be taken by the board to relieve
the crowded conditions has not been
made public. Temporary structures as
additions are not nractlcabe In all
cases and none of the modern movable
schools that were recommended by the
unitea mates survey nas been Insta ed
The problem to be solved by the
board is a serious one and while from
many, angles It Is apparently without
solution In view of the shortage of
funds, members of the board are de
voting much thought to the matter and
some practical solution will doubtless
be forthcoming.
There are no figures available as yet
to Indicate the condition In the various negro schools.
During the past
three years the enrollment nt the negro
schools has shown a decrease, but
whether or not this will hold good can
only be determined when the official
figures are submitted.

Home school officials believe that the
exodus of negroes from the North to
the South may affect the school enrollment to some extent and that possibly there may be an Increase over the
three previous years, however, this la
only speculation.
Plans are already under way for temporary relief for the Peabody school
and the patrons of Lauderdale school
have been promised relief, but until

temporary frame structures can be con
structed or modern movable schools Installed the seating capacity of these
and other schools of the city are taxed
far beyond their capacity and under
these conditions teachers and principals are doing the best that can be
done.

Although actual figures showing the
total enrollment at all of the public
schools of the city will not be received
by the board of education until the
end of the week, unofficial reports In
dicate, that all of the white schools
are taxed beyond their canaeltv.
The enrollment at the Central hle-schcol has broken all records and this
condition exists in practically all of
the white schools. Just what Hens are
to be taken by the board to relieve
the crowded conditions has not been
made public. Temporary structures as
additions are not nractlcabe In all
cases and none of the modern movable
schools that were recommended by the
unitea mates survey nas been Insta ed
The problem to be solved by the
board is a serious one and while from
many, angles It Is apparently without
solution In view of the shortage of
funds, members of the board are de
voting much thought to the matter and
some practical solution will doubtless
be forthcoming.
There are no figures available as yet
to Indicate the condition In the various negro schools.
During the past
three years the enrollment nt the negro
schools has shown a decrease, but
whether or not this will hold good can
only be determined when the official
figures are submitted.

Home school officials believe that the
exodus of negroes from the North to
the South may affect the school enrollment to some extent and that possibly there may be an Increase over the
three previous years, however, this la
only speculation.
Plans are already under way for temporary relief for the Peabody school
and the patrons of Lauderdale school
have been promised relief, but until

temporary frame structures can be con
structed or modern movable schools Installed the seating capacity of these
and other schools of the city are taxed
far beyond their capacity and under
these conditions teachers and principals are doing the best that can be
done.

SCHOOLS CROWD ED;

Martin Beck, managing director of the
Ornheum circuit, Is presenting at the
Orpheu mthls week the big card of the
present vaudeville season In the Marlon
Morgan dancers in their dance drama
of the time of Attlla and the Huns. The
lover or the dance Is under the Impression that everything In the line of dance
conception has already been done, but
Miss Morgan has succeeded In devising
wnicn is new. Her classical
someming
and Greek dancers offer a performance
wnicn gets entirely away from the frlv
olous dance of the day.
They bring
back In a most efectual way the days
wnen me oia ureeas lounged tne dance
for Its educational and physical value.
when they worshiped It for Its Interpre
tative beauty and when they accorded
it to an importance
that has almost
been lost sight of in these modern
times. ' The act is pantomimic in its
netirety and each one of the dancers
is skilled in the art or pantomime.
Their dancing tells a story that Is
made plain to the average spectator.
Every motion of the Individual uaucer
Dears a relative Importance to the whole
production, each evolution has a mean
Ing vital to the whole story as an lm.
portant word has to a sentence.
Thus the act Is an Imoortant one.
when ludved solelv from the standnnlnt
of the1 pantomimic production. Molded
Into the act are such qualities as can
De produced oy the most graceful danc
Ing, the most exquisite music, lights
and oolors which blend harmoniously,
scenery which represents the best stage
artistry and costumes which are the
acme of costume art. The music Joins
witn tne dancing
descriptive scene
Miss Morgan has devised an act which
Is proving the sensation of the Orpheum
circuit.
It appeals alike to the lovers of beau
ty, music and originality. The dance
