As Ahoalan-Nachpikin Lodge closes its eighteenth year of service, it is time to reexamine
and rededicate ourselves to the Mission and Purpose of the Lodge and of the Order of the
Arrow. For that reason it is imperative to examine the goals of the Chickasaw Council, the Order
of the Arrow, and of Scouting as a whole and how our own goals align.
This Strategic Plan establishes focused, long-term goals to provide a sense of direction to
incoming officers as they, in turn, will plan the goals for their term. The Plan, by nature,
transcends one sole year and is intended to be used over a span of several years until it is
determined that a new plan shall be written to guide the lodge.
This Strategic Plan cannot be accomplished by the Lodge Executive Committee alone. In
order to make the lodge truly great and an asset the units of the Chickasaw Council, it is
imperative that everyone is involved. These goals can only be accomplished with the added
support of every Arrowman within the Council. Only then will the Mission of the lodge be fully
realized and accomplished. Some of these goals will appear easy at the beginning; however
changes should not be made all at once in case the program and purpose of the lodge suffers
because of confusion over new implementations.

Mission of the Lodge:
The mission of the Ahoalan-Nachpikin Lodge is to achieve the purpose of the Order of the
Arrow as an integral part of the Boy Scouts of America in the Chickasaw Council through
positive youth leadership under the guidance of selected capable adults.

The Obligation of the Order of the Arrow
I do hereby promise on my honor as a Scout that I will always and faithfully observe and
preserve the traditions of the Order of the Arrow, Wimachtendienk, Wingolauchsik, Witahemui.
I will always regard the ties of brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow as lasting, and will seek to
preserve a cheerful spirit, even in the midst of irksome tasks and weighty responsibilities, and
will endeavor, so far as in my power lies, to be unselfish in service and devotion to the welfare
of others.

Purpose of the Order of the Arrow
As Scouting’s National Honor Society, our purpose is to:







Recognize those who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and
through that recognition cause others to conduct themselves in a way that warrants
similar recognition.
Promote camping, responsible outdoor adventure, and environmental stewardship as
essential components of every Scout’s experience, in the unit, year-round, and in summer
camp.
Develop leaders with the willingness, character, spirit and ability to advance the
activities of their units, our Brotherhood, Scouting, and ultimately our nation.
Crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful
service to others.

Membership Retention
The lodge relies on a membership base in order to deliver the Mission of the Order of the Arrow.
Therefore in order to foster Brotherhood, Service, and Leadership, the lodge will strive to increase
membership retention within the program.

Unit Elections
Perpetuation of the Order requires the inflow of new Arrowmen and this process begins with the unit
elections. In order to better promote the lodge and encourage active members, unit elections have to be
conducted with proper training and new programs created to assist the election teams.
Specific Goals:





Develop a central online system that tracks Unit Election results to completed Ordeal
Develop written plan for retaining new members and engaging them to a second event
Send reminders to units before Ordeals reminding them of candidates’ eligibility
Create procedure to ensure that candidates at events were duly elected

Increase Brotherhood Conversion
Brotherhood Conversion is acknowledged as a way of sealing the commitment of active Ordeal members
while also inspiring lapsed members. It can essentially be seen as the lodge’s “second chance” at
inspiring Arrowmen and creating more active members.
Specific Goals:



Increase Brotherhood conversion to 40% (Silver JTE level)
Update record-keeping so that Units/Arrowmen can be sent reminders about eligibility

Activities
Attendance at functions and events is the primary means of the lodge to deliver the spirit and program of
the Order. Increased attendance will in turn increase membership retention.
Specific Goals:




Average over 100 Arrowmen at Fellowship events
Develop promotional plan for events
Achieve 70% Membership Retention on Journey to Excellence (Gold level)

Summer Camp Presence

The Order of the Arrow was founded at a summer camp with the purpose of serving the campers and
ultimately the camp. Therefore it is of the upmost importance to create and maintain an active presence
at Kia Kima Scout Reservation. Summer Camp is also the main time that Scouts and Scouters will see the
Order and therefore the lodge should provide several opportunities for promotions.
Specific Goals:




Revamp the Summer Fellowship program to be more engaging for Arrowmen
Determine opportunities for more high visible promotion/outreach during Camp
Examine other lodges’ summer programs to incorporate successful ideas

Service
As a Brotherhood of Cheerful Service, the lodge exists to serve the youth of the council and to inspire
them to serve. Expanding on that the lodge should not only serve Scouting inwardly, but also serve
outwardly in the community and be a prominent, positive example of cheerful service.

Community Service
The lodge will examine opportunities that will allow us to provide a greater community service in terms
of quality and in quantity. Individual chapters will also examine possibilities of community service within
their chapter.
Specific Goals:



Have at least one Lodge community service project each year for the next two years
Create a Lodge Philanthropic program for local nonprofits

Council Service
Service to Scouting is one of the founding principles of the Order. The Lodge will continue to provide
service to the camps and the Council while creating innovative possibilities for new avenues of service
that are in line with the Strategic Plan of the Chickasaw Council.
Specific Goals:





Increase year-round service opportunities at Council Camps outside of normal events
Increase annual ServiceCorps members to 90 Arrowmen
Determine ways for the lodge to support the council’s Capital Campaign improvements
Provide a ServiceCorps at more Cub Scout events

Unit Support
“Let it be remembered that the Order of the Arrow was created to help the unit – to help it present its
membership a better ideal of the inner qualities of the good Scout camper. Qualities of character, like
cheerfulness and service, are hard for a boy or a man to understand in the abstract. They come easier
when seen in human life. Let us realize the significance of the Order in the unit – for the unit is our best
hope in Scouting.”
– Dr. E Urner Goodman, Founder

Camping Promotions
As an organization of honored campers, the lodge assists units with suggesting places to go camping.
The lodge also supports Kia Kima through camping promotion visits.
Specific Goals:




Publish an updated Where To Go Camping guide every two years
Innovate new ways to promote Kia Kima summer camp
Host a Camping Promotions training for Unit Election teams

Mobile Camp
Having recently absorbed the Mobile Kia Kima program, the lodge will seek to enhance and fully carry
out the mission of Mobile Camp in providing the Summer Camp knowledge and training to Units yearround.
Specific Goals:





Develop promotion plan to increase knowledge of Mobile Camp among unit leaders
Increase use of Mobile Camp among Cub Scout packs and Venturing Crews
Acquire a dedicated enclosed trailer fully equipped with supplies needed to complete
rank advancement up to First Class along with Cub Scout and Venturing supplies
Increase Commissioner Corps of trained Arrowmen who can operate Mobile Camp

Chapters
The Missions of the Lodge and of the Order are recognized to be carried out on the Unit level. For that
reason the Chapters are of vital importance to the operations and well-being of the Lodge as a whole.
Therefore in order to improve the programs of the Lodge, the Chapters must be running smoothly and
with a unified vision.

Chapter Administration
In order to deliver the program of the Order to the units, active Chapters are a necessity. By having more
active chapters with greater participation in the Districts, more units can be reached.
Specific Goals:





All five chapters holding meetings at least quartlery
Active Key 3 within the Chapters/Districts (Chapter Chief, Adviser, District Executive)
Have all Chapter Chief report to District Executive Committee meetings
Develop program to encourage and recognize units’ participation within chapter

Chapter Activities
The spirit and program of Scouting and of the Order cannot fully be conveyed in a meeting. Therefore the
Chapters will determine their options for activities outside of regular Chapter meetings for the purpose of
fostering Brotherhood or for the purpose of providing Service.
Specific Goals:



Have three chapters hold events outside of a normal chapter meeting
Have three chapters host events (non-OA related) at District Camporees

American Indian Affairs
American Indian culture has been utilized since the founding of the Order as it was recognized to foster a
love of nature and character. Over the years the Order’s American Indian program has continued to
decline in activity even though it is one of the most popular forms of promotion for the Order.

Dance & Drum
The lodge will make every attempt to educate and foster a learning of all styles of American Indian
dancing and singing. These can then be used in pow wow demonstrations for education and outreach, or
used to enhance Call Out and Cub Scout ceremonies. A standard of authenticity will be required.
Specific Goals:






Build basic dance regalia sets of the major styles for beginners to use to learn
Build a library of authentic songs to use and teach
Repair the Sakima Machque drum and create quality stands for the Sakima Machque
and Okla Kamassa drums
Develop a training program or event for teaching dancing and singing
Increase number of demonstrations done for Cub Scout events

Ceremonies
Through American Indian style ceremonies, the Order perpetuates traditions and ideals. The lodge will
seek to improve its ceremonies to further build character and establish the principles of the Order within
Arrowmen.
Specific Goals:




Finish developing a permanent ceremony site at Camp Currier
Establish two complete sets of lodge regalia
Develop plan to ensure longevity and upkeep of materials (i.e. torches, bow, etc)

Ahoalan-Nachpikin
Strategic Plan

Administration/Financial
If the lodge is to be able to deliver the mission of helping units and scouts, it must first be functioning
smoothly itself. This involves making several changes to streamline the administrative tasks while also
ensuring the lodge can continue to grow financially.

Record-keeping
In order to maintain knowledge of the current standing of the lodge, the officers will seek to organize
and maintain lodge records. This includes event records and registration. This will be accomplished
through greater use of the LodgeMaster system to keep accurate and up-to-date information on every
member of the lodge.
Specific Goals:





Develop and utilize a digital check-in process at events
Develop plan for officer communication during events at Camp Currier
Make membership cards available year-round
Develop system for quickly checking Season Pass members

Increased Funds
The program of the lodge is limited by the amount of available funds it has. Therefore the lodge will
investigate new opportunities to sell products and possible fundraising opportunities. This will allow the
lodge to have more freedom in program planning along with increasing financial contributions to the
Council and the camps.
Specific Goals:



Follow budget limits and remove budget items that are no longer used
Investigate and utilize fundraisers besides patch sales

Over the years the Order’s American Indian program has continued to decline in activity even though it is one of the most popular forms of promotion for the Order.
Dance & Drum
The lodge will make every attempt to educate and foster a learning of all styles of American Indian dancing and singing. These can then be used in pow wow demonstrations for education and outreach, or used to enhance Call Out and Cub Scout ceremonies. A standard of authenticity will be required.
Specific Goals:
 Build basic dance regalia sets of the major styles for beginners to use to learn
 Build a library of authentic songs to use and teach
 Repair the Sakima Machque drum and create quality stands for the Sakima Machque and Okla Kamassa drums
 Develop a training program or event for teaching dancing and singing
 Increase number of demonstrations done for Cub Scout events
Ceremonies
Through American Indian style ceremonies, the Order perpetuates traditions and ideals. The lodge will seek to improve its ceremonies to further build character and establish the principles of the Order within Arrowmen.
Specific Goals:
 Finish developing a permanent ceremony site at Camp Currier
 Establish two complete sets of lodge regalia
 Develop plan to ensure longevity and upkeep of materials (i.e. torches, bow, etc)

Strategic Plan
Administration/Financial
If the lodge is to be able to deliver the mission of helping units and scouts, it must first be functioning smoothly itself. This involves making several changes to streamline the administrative tasks while also ensuring the lodge can continue to grow financially.
Record-keeping
In order to maintain knowledge of the current standing of the lodge, the officers will seek to organize and maintain lodge records. This includes event records and registration. This will be accomplished through greater use of the LodgeMaster system to keep accurate and up-to-date information on every member of the lodge.
Specific Goals:
 Develop and utilize a digital check-in process at events
 Develop plan for officer communication during events at Camp Currier
 Make membership cards available year-round
 Develop system for quickly checking Season Pass members
Increased Funds
The program of the lodge is limited by the amount of available funds it has. Therefore the lodge will investigate new opportunities to sell products and possible fundraising opportunities. This will allow the lodge to have more freedom in program planning along with increasing financial contributions to the Council and the camps.
Specific Goals:
 Follow budget limits and remove budget items that are no longer used
 Investigate and utilize fundraisers besides patch sales
