Development of a strong chapter system within Chickasah Lodge 1406 is the only
way 'for a lodge of such size to operat-e in the true spirit of the Arro'W. The lodge
should be used only as a coordinating means among the seven chapters.
In order to
build these strong chapters the following suggestions should be used:
;1. The development of strong chapter dance teams with at least 15 members.
No
member of the team may be Long to just that chapters team. He is a member of both
the lodge and his cnapt.er dance team. ']}helodge will hold no ceremonies with the
except Lon of t.he V5g:U Ceremony. The lodge will also not hold any dances with
tl'.e
exception of the Scout Bhow , Area VA Conclave, and the National Convention.
These teams should be as representative of all chapters as possible.
On these
dances the team will be made up of the Lodge Vice Chief of Indian Affairs, and
members from the chapter dance team. to be selected by competitive means. After
the dar.ce the member-s will disperse b ack to their chapter t eem , This will provide a c:hance for one member who may not be good enough to dance at the Scout
Sho'H to dance at the Conclave.
Indian Dancing at camp fires shall be conducted by members of the 0 A an the
Camp Staffae ·well as any camper whp happens to have his costume and is approved
by the Camp Director.
2.

Each chapter should bring into service, on committees as many members as it can
involve in the a A Program.
Camp Promotions and Membership and Elections should
have 15 members each, not counting the chairman and his Advisor.
Training of
these members should be on a chapter basis with its chairman being trained at
the lodge officers training conference.
The lodge should never hold an election
or Camp Promotions session.
AWards will be given the chapter with the best Camp Promotions

effort.

3. Each Chapter should establish a certain meeting place, time, and date so that
members won't be confused about when meetings are held each month. This will
also cut down on the nQmber of mailings made to give notice of meetings.

4. Each chapter will send a representative to the District Roundtable to keep unit
leaders informed on what the a A is doing. This person will also be responsible
for writing its chapter news for the "Thunderbird".
This member will be appointed by the executive committee and have full voting rights to that committee.

5. All chapter officers shoQld be required to attend the Lodge Officers Training
Conference or be prepared to step down from office. This should be explained
by the chapter advisor before elections are held. Each chapter should hold its
election after the lodge election.

6. All chapters should attempt to hold same chapter function other than meeting,
such as a fellowship at a local park or nearby camp grounds or perhaps a swim
party at a loce:.lYMCA. The members should be given a chance to fellowship at
least once a year.

7. Chapters should compete with each other at lodge functions such as the lodge
fellowship to see "lhich chapter has the best attendance,
etc.

the best dance team

8.

Each chapter should have one adult member to act as advisor to each chapter
committee.

9.

The lodge will limit its functions to the following:
Three (3) Lodge Meetings a ye~r
February, May and A-ugust
The Father-Son Banquet in December
One (1) Ordeal in June at Kia Kima

10. The other Ordeals and Brotherhoods will be held in the following manner:

Ordeal
in March to be held by Northeast, 'North~'lestand N;rth Central. Ord.ea.lin October
to be held by Eastern, Southeast and Southwest. Brotherhood in February by
Eastern, Southeast, and Sout.hveab , Brotherhood in September by Northeast, Northwest and North Central.

11.

Each chapter should place a slate of officers from their chapter each year for
a lodge office. The lodge officers must be representative of the various chapters. It is the duty of'the officers of the lodge to help the sma.ller struggling
chapters without doing harm to the other chapters.

12.

Each chapt.e r should encourage its (ALL) officers to attend lodge executive committee meetings.
Although only the chapt.e r chief may have a vote when his
officers are present, they may be consulted in certFiin matters affecting their
chapter.

13.

The lodge should limit its number of executive mee~~ngs, yet hold more informal
meetings of chapter officers in order to help them vith any specific problems
Which another chapter ny have an answe r to.

14.

The Lodge Officers Training conference shall be run by the past lodge chi~f and
his officers because it is the new officers who need tLe training and this is the
only way for it to be done effectively.

15.

It is essential to the administration of the lodge that ench officer carry out
his job and if he cannot do so, that he be asked by the executive committee to
resign.

This is a program vhieh must be carried out over a two year period for certain reasons.
This program can and must vork. These are not all of the many things that go into
~he building of strong chapters and thus a strong lodge. The biggest factor will be
the willingness and drive of all 0 A Membe r s , but more so by the chapter officers.

* * * * *
The past Ordeal on October 21 and 22 was a great success. We now have a total of 70
new members added to our membership.
We want to thank all old members who came out
and helped.

The lodge will also not hold any dances with
tl'.eexception of the Scout Bhow , Area VA Conclave, and the National Convention.
These teams should be as representative of all chapters as possible. On these
dances the team will be made up of the Lodge Vice Chief of Indian Affairs, and
members from the chapter dance team. to be selected by competitive means. After
the dar.ce the member-s will disperse b ack to their chapter teem , This will provide
a c:hance for one member who may not be good enough to dance at the Scout
AWards will be given the chapter with the best Camp Promotions effort.
This member will be appointed
by the executive committee and have full voting rights to that committee.
7. Chapters should compete with each other at lodge functions such as the lodge
fellowship to see "lhich chapter has the best attendance, the best dance team
etc.
8. Each chapter should have one adult member to act as advisor to each chapter
committee.
9. The lodge will limit its functions to the following:
Three (3) Lodge Meetings a ye~r
February, May and A-ugust
The Father-Son Banquet in December
One (1) Ordeal in June at Kia Kima
10. The other Ordeals and Brotherhoods will be held in the following manner: Ordeal
in March to be held by Northeast, 'North~'lestand N;rth Central. Ord.ea.lin October
to be held by Eastern, Southeast and Southwest. Brotherhood in February by
Eastern, Southeast, and Sout.hveab , Brotherhood in September by Northeast, Northwest
and North Central.
11. Each chapter should place a slate of officers from their chapter each year for
a lodge office. The lodge officers must be representative of the various chapters.
It is the duty of'the officers of the lodge to help the sma.ller struggling
chapters without doing harm to the other chapters.
12. Each chapt.e r should encourage its (ALL) officers to attend lodge executive committee
meetings.
The biggest factor will be
the willingness and drive of all 0 A Membe rs , but more so by the chapter officers.
* * * * *
The past Ordeal on October 21 and 22 was a great success. We now have a total of 70
new members added to our membership. We want to thank all old members who came out
and helped.
