Loss

We express our sincere thanks to the Commissioners, Scoutmasters, Cubmasters,
and all who had a part in the 5% increase in 1952. Cur objective for 1952
was to organize units in every school, church and civic organi;ation that would
sponsor a troop or cub pack and to emphasize the subscription of Boy 1 s Life
Magazine to every troop. However, this objective was not reached in 1952,
but with plans already formulated all indications point to this goal being
accomplished in 1953,
RECOMMENDATIONS:
We are again badly in need of man power and we trust that those in this meeting
who are interested in Scouting will please contact some Scouter or call Scout
Headquarters, 8-2313,
CUBBING

E. A, Hawkins, Chairman
We are pleased to report progress in Cubbing during the year. However, we are
somewhat short in the total number of registered Cubs, Below the figUree will
give a comparison of work for 1951-1952.

A Cub Leaders• Training Course was conducted by the Chairman in the fall at
LeMoyne College & Manassas High School. A short training course at the high
school in West Memphis, Arkansas.
One of the outstanding j!!vents of the year was the Annual Thanksgiving Fellowship and Fun Breakfast at Douglass Park where over 350 Cubs participated, Several new packs are now in process of organization. A special effort is
being made to extend Cubbing in the rural section of Northern Mississippi and
Eastern Arkansas,

The Training Committee realizes the importance of more training as the
years go by, This is true of Scoutmasters, Commissioners, Denmothers and Cub-masters especially. The Training School was held September 29 -- October 18
with three sessions at LeMoyne College and three at Manassas High School, ending wtth an overnight session at Camp Fuller, There were 112 persons in attendance, Courses were; "The Scoutmasters' Basic Training and the Cub Scout Leaders
Basic Training.
The Training Course is indebted to old veterans who served as instructors,
and Mr, Howard Grube, Chairman of Leadership and Training of the Chickasaw
Council, who worked hand in hand with the leaders,

the districts did not function as sllch,
The record. r.llrnt be improved in 1953 if we are to give them the benefit of
the educational values of the program.

The Sumner Camp of the Seminole Division, Chicl<:-'.Lsaw Council, was held at the

Department of Public \'lelfare, We are also happy to report that under the direction
of .our spacial promotion comnittee 28 less chance boys attended Camp

We express our sincere thanks to the Commissioners, Scoutmasters, Cubmasters,
and all who had a part in the 5% increase in 1952. Cur objective for 1952
was to organize units in every school, church and civic organi;ation that would
sponsor a troop or cub pack and to emphasize the subscription of Boy1 s Life
Magazine to every troop.

A Cub Leaders• Training Course was conducted by the Chairman in the fall at
LeMoyne College & Manassas High School. A short training course at the high
school in West Memphis, Arkansas.
One of the outstanding j!!vents of the year was the Annual Thanksgiving Fellowship
and Fun Breakfast at Douglass Park where over 350 Cubs participated, -
Several new packs are now in process of organization. A special effort is
being made to extend Cubbing in the rural section of Northern Mississippi and
Eastern Arkansas,

LEADERS:UP AND TRAINING COMKITTEE
H. F. Price, Chairman
The Training Committee realizes the importance of more training as the
years go by, This is true of Scoutmasters, Commissioners, Denmothers and Cub-masters
especially. The Training School was held September 29 -- October 18
with three sessions at LeMoyne College and three at Manassas High School, ending
wtth an overnight session at Camp Fuller, There were 112 persons in attendance,
Courses were; "The Scoutmasters' Basic Training and the Cub Scout Leaders
Basic Training.
The Training Course is indebted to old veterans who served as instructors,
and Mr, Howard Grube, Chairman of Leadership and Training of the Chickasaw
Council, who worked hand in hand with the leaders,

<text><small><i>Please note that these documents are presented as they existed in their original form for historical accuracy. This document may contain racial or culturally insensitive language. Since the beginning in 1916, Scouting in Memphis has been regarded as a pioneer in interracial Scouting and equality; however, it still existed within the context of a segregated South. The material reflects the culture and context in which it was created and does not reflect the views and principles of the Kia Kima Alumni Association, the Chickasaw Council, or the Scouting movement.</i></small></text>
